The purpose of this study was the mediating role of coping styles in the relation between core self-evaluations and academic burnout. By multistage cluster sampling, 233 students of Islamic Azad University from South Tehran Branch were chosen studying in bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 2015-2016 and completed Core Self-Evaluations Scale (CSEs; Juge, Ereza, Bono & Thoreson, 2003), School Burnout Inventory (SBI; Breso, Salanova & Schoufeli, 2007) and shortened version of the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS-21; Calsbeek, Rijkan, Henegouwen & Dekker, 2002). The results of path analysis showed that problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping had significantly mediating role in relation between core self-evaluations and academic burnout but avoidant coping has no significant mediating role. The data showed that problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping had negative mediator role in relation between core self-evaluations and academic emotional exhaustion, academic uninterested, and had positive meditator role with academic inefficacy. Accordingly, it can be said that personality traits as a person can predict individual’s differences in people’s coping styles and academic burnout. From these findings it can be concluded that training coping style reduce academic burnout effectively.

In the present study, we reviewed the changes in the role of scientific self-concept, interest in science and attitude toward science in predicting the scientific performance of eighth-grade students in four international studies (TIMSS) conducted in 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2015. The confirmatory factor analysis, and effect sizes, and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used to examine the data from 21434 eighth graders who had participated in the four TIMSS studies. According to the study findings, between 2003 and 2007, the average of science scores has increased, and the average of science self-concept and attitude toward science have increased. Between 2007 and 2011, the average of science achievement has increased, and the average of science self-concept and interest in science have increased, too. Between 2011 and 2015, with a decrease in average of science performance, the average of science self-concept, and interest in science had a reduction; but the average of attitude toward science has decreased. The SEM results showed that science self-concept, directly and indirectly, predicted the science performance of students. According to the findings, attitude toward science and interest in science had negative effects on science performance; these negative effects should be examined using sociological studies. On the other hand, given the fact that attitude is an important variable in learning, more exploration is needed to explain the reduction in positive attitudes toward science and the minor role of attitude toward science in students’ science performance, especially in 2015.

Feeling of frustration is a common experience that has had its harmful effects on the learning and academic performance of students in the focus of attention of researchers. In this research, the role of Ali's characteristics of personality traits and coping strategies in explaining academic frustration was investigated. Participants included 718 students (380 girls and 338 boys) from Shiraz high schools selected by a cluster sampling method. To collect data, a short version of the Goldberg personality trait questionnaire, the scale of coping strategies with academic bells, and the degree of boredom associated with the class and learning was used. In order to investigate the model using structural equation method and to determine the role of mediation of coping strategies, the Bootstrap method and Baron and Kenny stages were used in AMOS software. The results of the study showed that, except for consensus, other personality factors predict academic frustration. Avoidance cognitive coping strategies will mediate the effect of task-oriented traits and the openness of experience on academic frustration. Avoiding behavioral strategy also mediates the impact of extraversion, duty and openness on academic frustration. In addition, the study of fit indices indicated that the model was consistent with the observations. The implications of the findings in the light of theoretical foundations and previous research are the subject of this article.
